1930年代的上海，一个内忧外患、黑社会横行的多事之秋。土匪关大义为寻找一见钟情的歌女丹凤来到大上海闯荡。
青帮马日升看中丹凤美色，威逼利诱，企图强娶为姨太太。关大义挺身而出，为丹凤做主，却因此与马日升结下江湖恩怨。
关大义买下长虹戏院，凭借自己不怕死的土匪弟兄和手上血债累累的枪，一跃而成上海最大黑帮，号称“红帮”，与马日升展开黑帮血拼。
马日升在日本人的帮助下强抢丹凤。洞房花烛之夜，关大义舍命杀入马府，击毙马日升。
